I suggest that you take the AP courses in Calculus AB or BC, AP Micro and Macro Economics, AP Statistics. You should take one or some of these courses before you graduate- The AP exams are offered in May and if you take the exams your senior year the colleges will not get the results until July, after you graduate.

How can you get into a good college when attending a bad high school? I go to a small high school in a rural town where most of the graduates go to community college if anything. It only offers 2 A.P. classes and no good extracurricular activities.

You will be evaluated in terms of how much you challenge yourself within the curriculum in which you are enrolled. So, if your school offers 2 AP courses and you are expecting to attend a competitive college, by all means take these two AP courses. You will be in an even better light if you take the initiative to find other opportunities outside of your own curriculum. For instance, if there is a local community college nearby, you can enroll in a few courses there. There are also many online courses available, both at the college and high school level.....View More

The problem is that I can't afford to take too many APs as they are expensive. So, which A.P.s should I take?

You should take the AP’s which most closely coincide with your intended major. For instance, if you are doing pre-med, take AP Calculus A/B or preferably AP Calculus B/C, and AP Biology. If you can afford more, take AP Chemistry and AP Physics. AP Statistics, by the way, is rarely a good substitute for AP Calculus. If you are trying for Engineering, you should take AP Calculus A/B or B/C and AP Physics if possible. For a business program, you should take AP Calculus A/B or B/C. You should also say in the Additional Information section of your application that....View More

Where do I take AP classes in India? My high school does not offer them. What are other alternatives if I want to apply to top Universities?

A university will evaluate you in terms of what resources you have available to you. It is not specifically necessary to take AP courses, if they are not available in your curriculum. If you are in an IB curriculum, your IB courses are considered even higher difficulty than AP courses. If you are in a CBSE or ISC curriculum, you can consider taking difficult courses online. We like the UC’s Scout program for AP courses. Another option is the Florida Virtual School. If you do take an online AP course, make sure that it is accredited, so that you can....View More

Should I prioritize APs or SAT Subject tests?

The AP's and SAT subject tests correlate with each other. Generally, students have compiled strategy and content from AP courses in school to tackle the SAT Subject Tests. Therefore, I would prioritize both exams. Some colleges offer college credit for excellent subject test scores and AP scores. High exam scores may also serve as pre-requistes to advanced college courses, exempting the student from taking introductory level courses.

Could you explain in detail how the whole AP Credit system works for various colleges?

AP stands for Advanced Placement.  This is a curriculum taught at many schools around the world, but mostly in the US. Students can take some classes as AP and others as regular classes depending on what is offered at their school and what their school allows.  After the class, the student can take an AP test which measures their knowledge and if they get a certain score, they can get college credit for that class.  This means the college acknowledges they have the level of knowledge in that subject as if they would have taken the class at that college. ....View More

What standardised tests should I take up this year or in the forthcoming year (apart from the SAT) to build on my resume for a reputed business undergrad course from a good university?

You have not mentioned what curriculum you are presently pursuing. If it is the IB , then you do not need any other scores. If it is an Indian curriculum, you could do some AP exams in related areas like Math/Calculus/Statistics and also Macro/Microeconomics. If your SAT Reading and Writing Section scores are not great (say < 600) then also do a TOEFL test. Otherwise, you could build up your resume` by working in some business organisation or starting up a small enterprise of your own.

You'll likely be treated the same as all applicants regarding AP exams.  Some schools don't actually look at the exam results as they only consider those if you're offered admission and to grant you credit.  Others may consider those scores so it's worth asking the schools you're applying to about how they review test scores.  As for AP courses, they are considered rigorous, but your application will be considered like all others in terms of did you take advantage of the curriculum that was offered to you.  There have been a lot of questions answered already about AP exams on....View More
